Evening shoes

Nine West Knowledge2 Shoes

These are a good height (around 3 inch) without being so high that you can't walk or dance in them but are high enough to flatter your ankle and leg.  The detailing on the toe is a subtle sparkle at one side and the shoes are in a soft sheen satin.  They secure well to your foot with the ankle strap and are flattering enough to wear with either a long or short dress.

I have posted them here because I have been looking for a good pair of evening shoes that won't date and are comfortable enough to wear all evening (with the obligatory dancing!).

Dresses that actually fit and flatter

Winser Miracle dress

Because the material is quite heavy with a bit of stretch, these dresses hug your figure in all the right places without the need for special shapewear underneath.  The dress comes just to the knee with a flattering neckline and the sleeve length is perfect.  I have worn this dress on a variety of occasions from work to formal blacktie - it can be dressed up with heels and eyecatching jewellery or dressed down with boots and pearls.  The zip detail at the back is a bit different and the pleat detailing across the waist/hip helps the dress fit just right.

I bought the dress in the bright red (Hollywood Red) and also the plum colour - the colours change each season - and am pondering about the bright blue (Cambridge Blue).  The price is perhaps higher than on the high street but this dress is superior in quality of material and cut than other similar items.  It washes easily and does not need much ironing which is a big bonus!

I have tried the Lauren and the Grace versions of this dress which unfortunately do not have the same fit - anything with pockets undoes the flattering effect across your middle and the cross-over style was simply too bulky to flatter.

Handcream for really dry chapped hands

Dr Hauschka Hydrating Hand Cream

Quite expensive at around £12 for a 50ml tube but this really does what it says it does and you only need a little.  Easy to rub in and sinks in almost straight away leaving your hands feeling velvety soft and not at all greasy.  I usually use Atrixo Enriched hand cream at night but the Dr Hauschka cream is better during the day when my fingers are rough and the skin is splitting (too cold, too dehydrated, too much contact with household cleaning product).

Fingerless gloves to keep frozen fingers at bay...

Barbour fingerless gloves

I have used them for dog walking every day over the winter months for the last 2 years and have found them hard wearing and comfortable.  They keep the wind out and warmth in until your fingers warm up.  Being 100% wool they breath so your hands don't get overheated. I got them in green which is a really soft mid green and doesn't show the mud (in fact they look as good as new - so I haven't washed them yet).  They are not too bulky at the cuff and not too slack around the fingers.
